Their signature dishes sour and spicy fish bee hoon is a must! Another signature steam fish hor fun not bad also but I prefer the sour and spicy one. Other dishes like bitter gourd and tofu taste good too. Recommended

Wong Chau Jun Restaurant has built a loyal following over the years, with regulars returning time and again for their delicious Teochew-style dishes. Some of the items on their menu aren’t commonly found in Penang, which makes this spot even more special. It’s one of those places I keep going back to. My personal favourites? The Spicy and Sour Bee Hoon with Fish Fillet, Steamed Hor Fun with Fish Fillet, and the Fried Bittergourd with Egg.

Ordered the signature dishes, noting that the steam hor fun has options of either whole piece or cubed fish. We prefer the whole piece as the texture tasted better than the cubed. The hor fun was thin and smooth while the fish was really fresh. Could have easily gotten 5 stars if not for the after meal effect of MSG

You must try their signature sour and spicy fish mee hoon – it’s delicious! You should also try the steamed hor fun with fish – it’s a unique taste that you won’t find anywhere else in Malaysia.

Honestly, the hor fun and soup dishes at Wong Chau Jun were decent — comforting and flavorful, but nothing that really wowed me. However, the tofu was a standout. The fried skin had a rich beancurd aroma, while the tofu inside was incredibly smooth and soft. The gravy paired beautifully with the crispy skin, giving the dish an elevated, memorable taste. Please order the tofuuu

They are magical in their handling of bitter melon - somehow remove the cloying bitter nose-palate-finish into a subtle-but-present bitter - excellent! Also, their fried silky tofu defies physics somehow - they manage to fry it in-tact, but it releases silky-smooth when you bite into - amazing! And the honey-fried drumsticks - ridiculously good. And lastly, their soup (which they sell bottles of) manages to balance the sour and spicy into a moebious strip of unending delight. A jewel of Penang insofar as food goes - we all over-ate...cannot waste this food.

I really love their Sour & Spicy Fish Meat Beehoon, it’s my must-order every time I come. The flavour is consistent and very comforting. The only downside is the parking, which can be quite hard to find. Other than that, definitely worth visiting!
